Elena Rybakina is set to finally make her Top 3 debut on the WTA Tour and it comes after the conclusion of Roland Garros.
Elena Rybakina has been a top 3 player this year proving herself to be in the elite tier of players alongside Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka. She's been on that level for a while with her Wimbledon triumph last year coming as the crowning moment of her career so far.
She was set to make a top 3 debut back then but the ban on Russian and Belarusian players prevented Wimbledon from awarding any points which got Rybakina to famously proclaim that it didn't feel like a true Wimbledon triumph. Well, on Monday, June 12th Rybakina will finally make her top 3 debut after the Roland Garros.
Her previous career-high came after she won the Italian Open but she will now improve that career-high mark to number 3, following the results of other players at the event. Rybakina has very few points to defend during the grass season and her grass prowess could see her increase her ranking even more.
The Roland Garros campaign ended on a bad note as she withdrew from the event ahead of her match explaining afterward that she had breathing difficulties that prevented her from playing. She posted an update on social media recently confirming that she's feeling better.
It was a tricky illness as her update said that she got tired after a 30-minute walk so it will be a few days before Rybakina returns to full fitness. The grass season is coming up and she already confirmed her participation in several events including the Eastbourne International one ahead of Wimbledon where she will be the defending champion. A good showing there and a title defense could possibly see her end up as world number one later in the season.
