'Each Match I Win Should Be Celebrated': Raducanu Keeps Expectations Low At Wimbledon

by Zachary Wimer

Emma Raducanu admitted that she has no expectations for this year's Wimbledon after starting it with a win.

The British player had a really solid grass season leading up to Wimbledon, winning some competitive matches, such as the one against Jessica Pegula in Eastbourne. Some pundits named her as a dark horse at this year's Wimbledon, but Raducanu isn't thinking that big.

She's confident in her ability to play well, something she repeated a few times in the past few weeks but didn't arrive in London hoping to go very deep. She arrived with the mindset of playing as best as she could and cherishing every win.

"As I said in the first press conference, I would be over the moon if I won my first round here, and I really am. I feel the joy of just being on-site, just being part of the buzz. I'm really just enjoying myself. I think that each match I win should be celebrated."

The Brit further admitted that she has no expectations results-wise, even though plenty of others certainly have for her. She just hopes to get out there, compete and fight to the best of her ability, and live with the result. If she wins, that's great, but if not, it's not the end of the world.

"Results-wise I have no expectations. I just have expectations of myself to put myself on the line on the court and fight and not let any frustrations get to me."

Time will tell how far Raducanu will go at the event, but it's not impossible that she will find a really good level and go deep. There aren't many players who have as much experience as her on the grass courts, and when things click for her, she can really beat anyone.
