Caroline Wozniacki will play at the Cincinnati Masters as the Danish former number one received a wild card entry into the WTA 1000 event.

Wozniacki shockingly announced her return to tennis recently declaring herself ready to tackle the challenge of tennis once again. It was a huge surprise for everybody on the WTA Tour creating shockwaves among tennis fans as well.

Wozniacki was a superb player in her time and many want to see what she can do. We've seen this before as Kim Clijsters made a comeback attempt playing superb tennis, but not many other players made much noise on the tennis Tour before finally hanging it up.

Wozniacki is in a better position than Clijsters to return and she seems quite motivated. There will be plenty of chances for her to play tennis as she received a number of wild cards already. One more is coming from Cincinnati as the tournament director is excited to welcome her back to the Western & Southern Open.

Caroline coming back to tennis is an exciting story for all of us. The Western & Southern Open is proud to be part of this early stage of her return to the sport. Caroline has demonstrated remarkable grace and perseverance over the years, and we are confident that this next stanza of her career will be conducted similarly.

Western & Southern Open Tournament director Todd Martin on the decision

Wozniacki herself is quite excited to have a chance to return to Cincinnati as it was the first event she played in her career. A long time since then has passed but the excitement about being back is quite similar to the one she felt back then as a teenager.

I first came to Cincinnati when I was fifteen years old in 2005. I am so happy to be back where I played my first WTA tournament. A big thank you to the tournament for this opportunity.
