Taylor Fritz surprisingly lost his second-round match at the 2023 Wimbledon against Mikael Ymer from Sweden.

The highest-ranked American on the ATP Tour was considered to be one of the dark horses at this year's Wimbledon. After playing his first-round match for three days due to multiple rain delays, Fritz took on Mikael Ymer in the second round.

According to his coach, Fritz believes to be one of the best grass-court players in the world, and he wanted to show it against the Swede ranked 59th in the world. And that plan was going well, at least in the first two sets.

Fritz served really well in the first two sets. He won more than 83% of points after his first serve and faced only one break point. On the other hand, the American had a total of six chances to break and used three.

Thanks to the superb start, the ninth seed won the opening two sets 6-3, 6-2, and he wanted to finish the proceedings quickly, breaking his opponent's serve in the opening game of the third set, leading by two sets and a break.

But little did he know that the match would last much longer than he probably expected. Ymer broke back immediately and after breaking once more, he won the third set 6-3, starting his impressive comeback.

The remainder of the match was surprisingly one-sided. Fritz had only one more break point, which remained unused, while Ymer created multiple chances and refused to give the American any easy points on his serve.

Thanks to that, Ymer was able to turn the match around in probably the biggest comeback of this year's Wimbledon, winning 3-6, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 and setting up a third-round clash with Daniel Elahi Galan.

For Ymer, reaching the third round of a Grand Slam will be an important step, especially this season. Earlier this year, the Swede was fined $40,000 for smashing the umpire's chair and £131,000 in prize money that he will receive for reaching the third round in the All England Club should certainly make up for that.
