‘Fritz Believes He’s One Of the Best Grass-Court Players’ According To Coach

Taylor Fritz has proven himself on the ATP Tour more than once and he hopes to make this year's grass season count.

Taylor Fritz is a very fine player, winning several trophies in his career so far. Moreover, an appearance at the ATP Finals last year solidified him as one of the best players on the Tour. He's also one of the more confident ones which is greatly beneficial if you're planning to be a tennis player.

You can't be a good tennis player if you don't believe in yourself and Fritz certainly does. Even though he couldn't beat an injured Rafael Nadal at last year's Wimbledon, the American believes himself of the best players on grass according to his coach. In a talk with Eurosport, his coach Michael Russel shared some insights into Fritz as a player.

I feel that he believes that he is one of the best grass-court players in the world. He serves well, he's got great hands, which allows him to return a lot of the big serves, and his confidence on a grass court…I think that gives him a lot of intangible positivity on the grass, because he believes that he can win.

The American won his maiden ATP trophy in Eastbourne a few years ago and he added another Eastbourne trophy last year. Two of his four career trophies have come on the surface which certainly supports the claim that he's quite good at it. He was on the verge of a semi-final at Wimbledon last year but lost to Rafael Nadal.

It was his best Grand Slam result and being close to beating Rafa gives him a lot of confidence, but at the same time knowing that he needs to continue to play aggressive in pressure moments and continue to work on shots that will allow him to defeat guys like Rafa in those stages of the tournament.

Russell on the Nadal loss

Fritz would beat Nadal later that year at the ATP Finals admitting that it gave him more confidence. His biggest career trophy also came with a win over Nadal as he defeated him in the Indian Wells final last year.
