Professional tennis players certainly enjoy holiday time like everyone else, but Marta Kostyuk confirmed she was not relaxing in the build-up to Wimbledon.

That came after a reporter confused the Ukranian for another person of the same name. Kostyuk had a busy two months ahead of Wimbledon after the 21-year-old crashed out of the first round at the 2023 Roland Garros.

The Ukrainian player proceeded to step up her preparation for grass court season at the Birmingham Classic, a WTA 250 event, singles and women's doubles, which she won alongside Barbora Krejcikova.

However, contrary to what one reporter saw on Instagram, Kostyuk said she was not holidaying in Iceland and Ireland before the 2023 Wimbledon began. In her post-match press conference after stunning Maria Sakkari in the first round at Wimbledon, Kostyuk was quizzed about her apparent journey to European destinations, in what turned out to be a case of mistaken identity.

"Where did I post pictures from? Iceland? I don't think that was me. No. No. I don't remember, especially in the past couple of months, I probably didn't."
- Kostyuk said in her press conference

Unfortunately for some Wimbledon press members, it was not the first media gaffe that occurred at this year's Grand Slam. Previously, a reporter was questioning Victoria Azarenka after her first-round victory against Yue Yuan and the media member accidentally confused the Belarusian player for Russian.

The blunder left Azarenka confused and she answered politely about how she views Wimbledon. Similarly, Kostyuk was stumped by the questioning by reporters at the latest press conference, but the Ukranian player seemed to take it in good spirits.

In the second round, Kostyuk will continue her Wimbledon campaign with an upcoming match against Spanish player Paula Badosa. Elsewhere. Azarenka's quest for a third career Grand Slam will continue at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in the second round as she faces WTA number ten Daria Kasatkina.
