16-year-old tennis phenom Mirra Andreeva secured a Top 100 appearance following a second-round win at Wimbledon.
The Russian sensation broke out on the WTA Tour earlier this year by beating a handful of players at the Madrid Open. It was only eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka that ended her run in the Spanish capital. Her next big event was Roland Garros.
She had to play the qualifiers to get into the main draw and after doing that successfully, Andreeva made it to the 3rd round where she was beaten by Coco Gauff. She followed that up with some amazing performances at Wimbledon too.
She first booked a spot in the main draw by beating three players in the qualifiers. After that, Andreeva managed to win her first-ever Wimbledon main draw match and then followed that up with another win in the second round.
That second round was a profound win for the Russian, her second Top 15 win in her career and the one that ultimately secured her a Top 100 breakthrough. She wasn't guaranteed to make the Top 100 before the match but with the win, Andreeva is projected to be ranked around 80th unless she goes even deeper in the draw.
It's been a dream year for her as she has a 27-3 record so far this year with all the matches she played, including the ITF Tour. She's 14-3 on the WTA Tour this year, including qualifying matches and lower-tier events, with losses to Gauff, Sabalenka, and Rakhimova which tells you all you need to know as two of those are Top 10 ranked players.
The Russian is certainly headed for stardom and the improved ranking will allow her to play more big events in the future. It also guarantees her a main draw appearance at the US Open without having to play the qualifiers.
