Paula Badosa is unlikely to feature at Wimbledon this season as the Spanish player continues to struggle with a spinal injury.
The setback will come as a disappointment to Badosa, who has not played since she lost against Jeļena Ostapenko in the Italian Open quarter-final. Shortly after the loss, Badosa was officially ruled out of the 2023 Roland Garros following a stress fracture in her back.
The 25-year-old also missed out on the Australian Open this season in January due to a thigh injury. An omission from Wimbledon will mean Badosa has missed all three majors of the 2023 season and the former world number two admitted that there is a slim chance she will feature in SW19 during an interview with El Larguero.
"The doctors told me a minimum of eight weeks and five have passed. I said that I wanted to get to Wimbledon, but I know that if I get there it won’t be 100% because there’s barely a week and a half left and I haven’t entered a tennis court yet,”
“I am giving everything I have to recover as soon as possible, I am here with all the doctors looking for solutions and the injury is recovering very quickly, luckily.”
Following a strong start to the 2022 campaign, where Badosa rose to second in the rankings, the last 12 months have been more of a struggle for the 25-year-old. A lack of playing time and difficulty finding form has led to the Spanish player's fall from a top ten contestant down to 33rd in the current standings.
However, Badosa will be hopeful of making a return post-Wimbledon, if she is unable to feature and she will likely set her sights on a strong end to the season to rise back into contention in the WTA rankings.
