Paula Badosa and Ajla Tomljanovic have become the latest players to withdraw from the upcoming Australian Open.

Two-time champion Naomi Osaka withdrew from the tournament earlier this month. She did not provide a reason at the time but subsequently announced she was pregnant with her child.

While Badosa and Tomljanovic are not Grand Slam champions, they are still significant players in the sport. Their absences are disappointing, given their ability to produce quality at major tournaments.

Badosa reached No. 2 in the world last year and is a former French Open quarterfinalist. When she plays her best tennis, the Spaniard's powerful game is among the most formidable on the WTA Tour.

Tomljanovic is a three-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist, including twice at Wimbledon. However, the Australian has struggled at her home Grand Slam over the years, never making it past the second round.

Both women announced their withdrawals on social media. Badosa said she would be out for a few weeks after hurting herself at the Adelaide International, while Tomljanovic has not been able to recover in time from a knee injury.

"Hi everyone, Bad news... During the quarter final match in Adelaide, I hurt myself and after receiving the results I will have to be out a few weeks... Sad to miss Australian Open this year, really going to miss it. I will do everything to return as soon as possible. See you soon."

“It absolutely pains me to have to write this message but unfortunately I won’t be able to compete at this years Australian Open. I’ve done absolutely everything in my power to get healthy but just ran out of time to heal and be 100 per cent ready to compete at a high level. It’s been a very tough decision to make but I have to listen to my body."
