Aryna Sabalenka vs Iga Swiatek: 2023 WTA Finals - Preview & Prediction

Iga Swiatek will take on Aryna Sabalenka in a monumental match for both players because the winner goes to the final of the WTA Finals and likely ensures finishing as world number one.

A few weeks ago, Aryna Sabalenka overtook Iga Swiatek as the world number one. It was deserved results as she truly was the most consistent player overall however, she's in danger of losing it in the final week of the season at the 2023 WTA Finals.

Both of them have the goal of finishing as world number one, especially Sabalenka, for whom that would be the true number one ranking.

Swiatek spent over a year as world number one and obviously wants to get back there, but she needs to win the event to do so. If she loses to Sabalenka later today, she ensures the Belarusian finishes as number one.

Head-to-head:

They've played plenty of times so far, including this year. Some of those were big matches like the one in Madrid earlier this year. Swiatek mostly came out on top, and many assume she will do so again because she's been amazing so far at the event.

The overall score is 6-3 for Swiatek but it's 2-0 at WTA Finals. They played in 2021, and Sabalenka won that match in three sets. They played last year as well, and once again it was Sabalenka in three sets.

Prediction:

That match from last year was actually a semi-final as well so there is plenty of motivation for Swiatek to win the match. Besides going to the final and avenging the loss from last year, there is also the number one rank in play.

She's played better all week and looks comfortable with the condition as opposed to many of her colleagues, so back her to get it done.

Prediction: Iga Swiatek to win in two sets.
