Angelique Kerber, a former World No. 1 and a three-time Grand Slam champion, has joined the ranks of mothers on the WTA Tour after giving birth to her first child.

Kerber has, for much of her career, been a player who has kept her private life very private. It’s never been part of the discourse around her career, but it became a bit of a topic in recent months.

It mostly came down to her sharing a big life update, which became the talking point. She announced ahead of the 2022 US Open that she wouldn’t be playing at the event, deeming it unfair for her to play, considering it would be two against one.

It was a very creative way of announcing that she was pregnant and carrying a child. In the same announcement, Kerber confirmed that her comeback would happen after she gave birth, and it seems like it’s time for Kerber to start thinking about that.

She has officially joined the ranks of mothers on the WTA Tour as she’s given birth to her first child. Kerber announced the news herself on social media, where she provided fans with the name and the date of birth of her daughter, Liana.

"Welcome to our family, Liana *25.02.2023. Having you with us is the most beautiful & overwhelming feeling we could have ever imagined."

The announcement was accompanied by a photo which had the baby’s tiny hands alongside the hands of Kerber and her partner, Franco Bianco.

There was no mention of tennis, which is understandable, but fans can expect Kerber to come back to the sport in due time as she’ll probably start practicing as soon as she can. It will obviously take her a couple of weeks to recover from the pregnancy and childbirth, but soon enough, Kerber will be back on the courts.
