2023 Canadian Open Montreal WTA Entry List - Swiatek, Sabalenka, Rybakina & more

The 2023 Canadian Open in Montreal is set to run from August 7th to 13th and the entry list promises yet another exciting event.

As one of the WTA 1000 tournaments leading up to the last Grand Slam of the season, the Canadian Open, also called the National Bank Open, is one of the events that no player wants to miss in the calendar.

Last year, the event was held in Toronto as the players alternate between the two cities, and Simona Halep won the tournament. However, the Romanian won't compete this year as she's away from the competition due to a provisional suspension.

Since the tournament will be held in Montreal, Quebec in 2023, it will be played at the IGA Stadium, and even though that's the name of the sponsor, coincidentally, it's also the first name of the player that leads the entry list, Iga Swiatek.

As at any tournament that she enters, the young Pole will be the biggest favourite, but once again, she will be facing a challenging field of competitors, as Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina will both want to prove that they belong to the WTA's forming Big Three.

But the rest of the field will also have big motivation to prove their qualities. The tournament will be attended by the likes of Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Caroline Garcia, Ons Jabeur, Maria Sakkari, and many more, as virtually every player that could, signed up for the tournament.

The wild cards were given to two legends and three home players. Caroline Wozniacki is making a surprising return to tennis, and Venus Williams also received a wild card. The three home players are Leylah Fernandez, Rebecca Marino, and the 2019 Canadian Open champion, Bianca Andreescu.

The Canadian Open is one of the most popular tournaments on the calendar, and the fact that almost every player that could sign up for the tournament appears on the entry list just proves that. Tournament Director Valérie Tétreault feels the same and the numbers just prove it.

"Every tournament presented this season has showcased superlative tennis, and the growing sales figures and TV ratings fully confirm that. We’re convinced the trend will continue here this summer, since there’s every indication that the NBO will set a new attendance record for a WTA event in Montréal."
