'Who Is Coaching Who?': Ben Stiller Discusses Coaching Role With Kyrgios

by Sebastian Dahlman

Nick Kyrgios and Ben Stiller shared a hilarious exchange which discussed a possible coaching role.

Already in the past, the Australian hinted that he may be interested in coaching or mentoring someone. In January, he talked about mentoring Holger Rune, who is one of the most talented players currently competing on the ATP Tour.

Currently, Kyrgios is working on his comeback and it seems that he had time to think a lot as he came up with an interesting idea, to become a coach. He shared his thoughts on Twitter and quickly got attention of famous actor Ben Stiller.

The Australian tennis player appeared in the headlines with the American actor already during the 2022 Indian Wells when Stiller was watching one of Kyrgios' matches. One of the fans was talking to the Australian and he used Stiller as an example to explain to the fan that he also doesn't tell others how to do something that they are good at.

"Are you good at tennis? Exactly, so why are you speaking? Do I tell him [Ben Stiller] how to act?"

Now, more than a year later, Kyrgios interacted with Stiller directly and it came after one of his tweets, in which he suggested that he may be searching for a coaching role.

"Thinking about coaching, any takers."

Naturally, the Australian gathered many responses under his tweet, including many other popular athletes, or actors. One of them was Czech ice-hockey player David Pastrnak who suggested that he may be his sparing partner.

"If you need sparring partner,I’ll come sweat it out with you. Not great on grass but US open I could do."

But also Stiller noticed his tweet and didn't wait around to reply as the two shared quite a hilarious conversation, which started with the American actor replying:

"I’m open to it. But would need to know you’re serious."

Kyrgios noticed the reply as he continued: "Let’s do it. I’m all in, what you thinking?" A bit confused Stiller replied: "First we need to decide who is coaching who." But Kyrgios knew exactly what he's searching for: "I’ll coach you to get you in a professional tournament. Then you coach me to get me in a movie."

Only time will tell if the two really meet as a coach and protégé, or if Kyrgios really takes on a coaching role and starts mentoring one of the fellow players on the ATP Tour.
