Thanasi Kokkinakis had a bit of a laugh after a reporter mistakenly referred to him as Nick [Kyrgios], his friend and doubles partner, following his first-round win against Fabio Fognini at the 2023 Australian Open.

Kokkinakis, who is Australian with Greek roots, is the only player of such heritage left in the draw after Kyrgios' withdrawal. During a press conference after his match, he was asked a question about that, in regards to the support he receives in Melbourne. However, the reporter started the question with the word "Nick" while talking to Thanasi.

The moment was caught on camera and has since gone viral on social media, with many people praising Kokkinakis for his good-natured response. He joked: "Wow, that's you done." And afterwards shared the video on his Twitter with a caption stating: "Taking the absolute piss😂"

Despite the mix-up, Kokkinakis seems to take it all in stride. He is known for his easy-going and relaxed personality on and off the court, and has a reputation as one of the most approachable players on the tour.

After his win against Fognini, the Australian meets former world no. 1 Andy Murray in the second round of the event.
