Nick Kyrgios has told his 3.3 million followers his tennis journey will continue after his eleventh hour withdrawal from home slam the Australian Open.
The man from Canberra was forced to withdraw from events at Melbourne Park just hours before he was due to take to court to play Roman Safiullin in the first round due to a knee injury.
It's been a heart-breaking blow for the World No.21 who always proves himself a big draw for Melbourne crowds and was many peoples tip to go all the way this year.
This time last year, many questioned whether they would see Kyrgios walk out at the Rod Lever Arena ever again after his defeat to Daniil Medvedev but a strong 2022 dispelled any thoughts that the talented 27-year-old might retire.
A title in Washington, a Wimbledon final and seeming more settled in his personal life has shone a new light on the often-derided star and in his message to Instagram, he confirmed he is going nowhere in terms of his career.
He said:
"As the emotions have settled...I just want to thank everyone who has sent their positive energy my way. But also (I) apologise to all my fans who wanted me to knock on the door of a slam again. Never easy sitting and watching...he journey continues."
Kyrgios earned one of the best results of his career at the 2022 Australian Open, where he partnered close friend Thanasi Kokkinakis to the doubles title.
The Aussie pair were due to begin their defence against Nicolas Barrientos and Ariel Behar.
On Wednesday, Kokkinakis dismissed a journalist for mistaking him for Kyrgios following his singles win over Fabio Fognini.
