Daniil Medvedev faced a very difficult draw in Montreal when he took on Nick Kyrgios in his first match and the Australian prevailed in a three-set battle.
The Russian was coming to Montreal after winning in Los Cabos without losing a set. However, his second-round opponent, Nick Kyrgios was playing in a great form and managed to beat Daniil Medvedev. It was a difficult loss for the Russian and some of the fans tried to make it even harder for him after the match. In his post-match press conference, Medvedev said:
"For sure the next two, three days it’s not going to be easy coming back to practice knowing that everybody is still playing in Montreal, fighting for a thousand points, for a Masters winner title. It’s not easy. At the same time I had a lot of tough moments in my career. This is definitely not the toughest. I’m going to try to prepare well.”
“I hope to play well in Cincinnati. I hope to play well in the US Open. When I say ‘well’, it’s to try to be the winner. But there are a lot of guys like Nick, Carlos (Alcaraz), who can win,” Medvedev concluded.
Yet, before the Russian came to the press conference, he walked past some of the fans and one of them shouted: "Loser!" Medvedev apparently didn't like that and he confronted the fan immediately.
