The
draw for the 2025
Italian Open has been released, and it will make Italian fans happy, as
Jannik Sinner's name appears in it.
The last
ATP Masters 1000 tournament on clay will run from May 7th until May 18th, and only for the second time this season, Jannik Sinner's name will be in the draw of a professional tennis tournament.
The 23-year-old Italian competed at the Australian Open this year, which he managed to win, and after that, he served a three-month suspension because of a positive doping test that happened last year in Indian Wells.
There couldn't be a better tournament for Sinner's comeback, as fans in Rome are incredibly excited to welcome him back on the Tour. He will be the top seed at the 2025 Italian Open, starting with a first-round bye like all the seeded players.
Sinner's second-round opponent will be the winner of the match between clay-court specialist Mariano Navone and home wild card Federico Cina.
On the opposite side of the draw is the second-seeded
Alexander Zverev. The German player was the top seed at events during Sinner's suspension, but he will now have to look at the bottom of the draw instead of the top. Zverev will play against Camilo Ugo Carabelli or a qualifier in the second round.
Carlos Alcaraz should compete in Rome as well. His participation is not yet 100% sure, even though
all the reports suggest that Alcaraz should play in the Italian capital. However, his participation will be 100% sure only once he steps onto the court.
If he does that, it will be against the winner of the match between
Jan Lennard Struff and
Yoshihito Nishioka. Alcaraz is the third seed, and he is in Zverev's half of the draw.
Already in the quarter-finals, Alcaraz could meet the fifth-seeded
Jack Draper. The Brit just played the Madrid Open final, and he will be among the favorites in Rome as well. Draper will start against Yunchaokete Bu or Luciano Darderi.
The player who beat Draper in that final was
Casper Ruud. The Norwegian player is the sixth seed in Rome after earning a huge ranking boost following his win in Madrid, and he will play against
Roman Safiullin or
Alexander Bublik in the second round.
Already in the third round, however, Ruud could face a very challenging opponent. The 29th-seeded
Matteo Berrettini will play against the winner of the match between
Fabio Fognini and Jacob Fearnley. Fans could see an all-Italian second-round match, and the winner of that match would then play against Ruud.
