'There Will Be Girlfriend He Can Talk To And Then It's Not Me Anymore' Says Rune's Mother

Holger Rune is very close to his mother, but she understands that, eventually, her son won't talk to her about everything.
Rune has a very strong bond with his mother, and it comes from the fact that she travels to ATP events with him. It's always been like that as the family settled on his mother being the one to accompany him at events while his father remained home.
He did join them a few times, but it's usually his team and his mother who support the Danish youngster in the stands. It's a nice bond that works really well for them, but eventually, it will be replaced by something else.
She spoke about that in the ATP Tennis Radio Podcast, explaining her thoughts. Aneke knows that her son will grow up in the coming years.
"At some point, I think there will be a girlfriend he can talk to and then it’s not me anymore. But I think it’s different to have someone who is not that directly involved on-court in how you’ve to play. It’s nice to have someone off-court that you can talk to."
One thing that is very important in the mother-son relationship is honesty. She's brutally honest with Holger even though quite a few times he's not really happy with it.
Being a parent does give her a certain buffer in the anger, which helps in allowing her to remain honest.
"When he comes to me and ask for an honest opinion, he always gets it honest. It’s easier to be honest when you’re a parent because… you can hate your parents but it’s so rare that you hate them for life. Even though he may get pissed when I say the truth, I always do, and I think he likes it because he knows he can trust me."
