Holger Rune is one of the tennis players who are obsessed with the sport. His mom recently highlighted how much when she said that he saw not playing tennis as a punishment.
Rune is very invested in tennis. He loves competing, he loves winning, and he just loves the sport. While some, like Alexander Bublik, do it because of financial gains, the young Dane truly loves to play tennis.
Although his recent results haven't been very successful, Rune hopes to turn things around in the coming weeks. He even started working with Boris Becker as his new coach.
He wants to improve and be better on the tennis courts, which is something he has attempted to do since he was a child.
His mother, Aneke, revealed some stories about his childhood during a recent episode of the ATP Tennis Radio Podcast. She explained that a young Rune thought not playing tennis was a punishment.
"When he was younger, when he needed a day off from tennis, we said, 'No, no, you can’t have Saturday or Sunday; we need to take off,' and he said, 'But what did I do wrong?' And it was like, 'But you did nothing wrong, but you also need to do other things.' He saw it as kind of a punishment for not being able to go to the club and play tennis."
He's still as in love with tennis as he was back then but being an adult now, Rune fully understands the importance of rest and breaks. As a professional, he understood that scheduling is also what makes champions.
"Later on, he now feels in his body that it is so much more demanding, so he really enjoys some days off here and there. So now it’s much easier to make him understand that days off are really good."
