Rafael Nadal has one clear goal in the 2023 season and he's not willing to risk anything for it.

The 36-year-old Spaniard has been injured for the majority of the year, winning only one of the four matches that he played. He missed the Sunshine Double but also the Monte-Carlo Masters. After his withdrawal from the Monegasque event, it seemed that he will be fit for the 2023 Barcelona Open.

However, now Spanish outlet Cadena SER reports, that Nadal may not be ready for Barcelona and that he may even miss the 2023 Madrid Open. The Spaniard's clear goal in 2023 is to be ready for the Roland Garros where he can challenge for his 23rd Grand Slam title and according to French coach Patrick Mouratoglou, he will be ready for it. But the most recent reports are different.

“His team has confirmed to Cadena SER the difficulties he is going through due to his psoas injury since he is not 100% well. This raises doubts about the dates of his return to the courts since there are days when he is better and others when he does not find good feelings.”

“What is clear is that to avoid future problems, the Spaniard plans to postpone his return as long as necessary, seeking to feel comfortable on the court again.”

Currently, Nadal still appears on the entry list for the 2023 Barcelona Open and he should make the decision in the upcoming days as the ATP 500 tournament is set to run from April 17th to 23rd.
