Nick Kyrgios enjoyed some fun times in the Bahamas, where he has a base, but he was accused of animal cruelty because of what he did during his vacation.

Kyrgios made the Bahamas his base during his playing days. While the Australian famously enjoys staying back home in Australia the most, the Bahamas do kind of resemble Australia quite a bit.

It’s warm, there are beautiful beaches, and the atmosphere is chill, which is right up Kyrgios' alley. The somewhat favorable taxing situation might be another reason why he’s listed the Bahamas as his official residence, as he’s not the only player to do so.

He was on the islands recently for some rest after what was a busy summer for him. He made a tremendous run at the Wimbledon Championships but failed to win the trophy as Novak Djokovic proved better in the final of the grass-court major.

During his time in the Bahamas, Kyrgios got to play with some baby sharks, and that moment was captured on camera with Kyrgios sharing it on Instagram. In the video, the Australian could be seen pulling the shark on the shore, with the animal seemingly in distress.

The shark tried to wrestle free but was unable to do so, prompting many in the comments to accuse the Australian of animal cruelty, especially in light of his public declaration of adopting veganism as a way of life.

Kyrgios, however, defended his actions in the comments, pointing out that the animal wasn’t harmed in any way as there were no hooks involved. He clarified that the shark bites a rope, as the point of the maneuver is to see how strong the shark can be.

"There were no hooks involved. The shark bites on bait attached to the rope. I was wanting to see the strength of the shark."
