Casper Ruud won his third title of the 2022 season when he defeated Matteo Berrettini at the 2022 Swiss Open in Gstaad.
Any sportsman's dream is to be at the top of their game, with some taking more extreme measures than others. However, one element that a lot of professionals try to limit or even ban is alcohol consumption.
The spritely young Norwegian Casper Ruud is certainly one to take his craft seriously, with him famously being almost completely teetotal. It is a route many professional sportsmen and women opt for, but it once again became the topic of a post-match interview after his win in Gstaad.
After overcoming Italian steed Matteo Berrettini 4-6, 7-6, 6-2 in the final of the recent 2022 Swiss Open in Gstaad, the Norwegian was asked about any celebrations that he had planned to commemorate his victory.
Ruud happily used the opportunity to make a joke about his lack of alcohol consumption, saying he was saving it for a rainy day.
"Well, there is not too much time to celebrate, but I always told myself that whenever some day my career is done, I can catch up with all the alcohol I've been missing, for 17-18 years, hopefully, if I have a long career."
He then went on to speak about how he does, very occasionally, dabble in the drinks, explaining how he could see himself getting a taste for it in the future, but not at the moment.
"Let's see how that goes, but I don't really drink too much alcohol even though I have a girlfriend who pushes me a little bit to enjoy some wine here and there. I am starting to get a little more taste of it, especially white wine is okay for now. Red wine is too strong."
