Matteo Berrettini Withdraws From 2023 Vienna Open

Matteo Berrettini has withdrawn from yet another event, as the Italian won't be playing at the 2023 Vienna Open.

It's been a very strange year for Matteo Berrettini, who didn't play that well when he did play, and lately, he hasn't played at all. He last played at the US Open, where he wasn't having a very good match against Arthur Rinderknech, and then he injured himself on top of that.

It was an ankle injury as he rolled his ankle quite a bit. It looked very bad as he left the court in a wheelchair. However, it ultimately didn't prove as terrible as it initially looked.

He provided an update on social media, which struck a positive tone, making his fans quite relieved about it. Still, some time away from tennis was guaranteed, and he's yet to return to the courts.

A recent update on social media addressed his recovery and hopes for the rest of the season, but we're not going to see him at the Vienna Open.

He was initially supposed to play in Stockholm a week before but also withdrew from that event. With this recent withdrawal from Vienna, the Paris Masters participation looks in doubt.

We don't know whether he'll play in the city of love, and it's impossible to predict, considering how these past few weeks have gone for Berrettini.

One thing that is important to note is the similarity with last year when he also battled an ankle injury. He missed all of these events only to make a return at the Davis Cup Finals as part of the Italian team despite not playing any matches.

Perhaps we see something like that this year as well but he also might play. Tough to say, but he likely won't play any meaningful matches until next year.
