The superb match between Sinner and Alcaraz had Juan Martin Del Potro compare it to the rivalry of Federer and Nadal.

Carlos Alcaraz achieved one of the biggest victories in his career thus far in a contest that began on Wednesday night and was finished on Thursday morning. In the 2022 US Open quarterfinal, the Spaniard prevailed over Jannik Sinner 6-3, 6-7(7), 6-7(0), 7-5, 6-3 to get to his first Grand Slam semifinal after battling for 5 hours.

Juan Martin del Potro, the 2009 US Open champion, felt inspired to rejoin the tour after Wednesday's high-calibre encounter. Del Potro, who will be a commentator for ESPN for the duration of the competition, acknowledged his desire to compete once more and compared the rivalry between Alcaraz and Sinner to that of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.

"I still feel like a player, I don't think like a former tennis player- I come and say, 'I'm going to have a good time, I'm going to see friends, I'm going to see new generations.' But when I see them play, I say: 'I have to be there playing.' I still feel that. I have a weird combination of feelings. I am fascinated with the level of tennis of these children. It will be the Federer-Nadal of the next few years.” noted Del Potro.
