Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner showed respect to each other after their five-set match at the 2022 US Open.
Two young and exciting players met in the last quarter-final match at the 2022 US Open, but only one could make it through. Initially, it seemed that Sinner would be the victorious player.
The Italian player served to win the match in the fourth set, and he had a match point. However, that was not enough for Sinner to win, as Alcaraz stormed back to win in five sets.
The young Spaniard won the match 6-3, 6-7(7), 6-7(0), 7-5, 6-3 in an incredible five hours and 18 minutes. Fans at the Arthur Ashe Stadium certainly got their money's worth.
Still, it was a very disappointing loss for Sinner. During his post-match press conference, he admitted how painful it was for him, saying that it would take a long time to recover from this loss.
He then also added a post on his Instagram profile. He looked back on the great atmosphere, but once again mentioned how much will the loss hurt. At the same time, Sinner also congratulated his opponent.
"I Ieft everything out there last night, but it wasn’t meant to be. The atmosphere and support was something special that I’ll never forget. This one hurts, but we get back to work and onto the next. Carlos Alcaraz, congrats, it was an incredible battle! Good luck for the rest of the tournament."
After the Italian player showed his class, his 19-year-old Spanish opponent did too. Alcaraz saw Sinner's post and commented on it, saying that he deserved to win. He also predicted that the two will meet many more times in the future.
"You deserved the win as well!! Many more to come, always good to play against you."
