For the third time this season, Jessica Pegula's run at a Grand Slam tournament ended in quarterfinals as she's yet to reach a major semifinal.
This time, the 28-years-old American took on world number 1, Iga Swiatek who defeated her in two sets 6-3, 7-6(4). It's a second time that the young Pole bested Jessica Pegula at Grand Slam this season and when she did so the last time, she lifted her second Roland Garros title.
Pegula traditionally attended the press conference after the match and she arrived also with a can of a beer. When one of the journalists was about to ask a question, she pointed out the can of beer that the American was holding in her hand.
Three-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist in 2022 took her chance and reacted really hilariously when she responded: "I'm trying to pee for doping. Although it helps to ease the loss."
After beating the American in the second consecutive Grand Slam quarterfinal, Iga Swiatek said: "I was able today to use my intuition a little bit more. I didn't force myself to do every step right, all this technical stuff that I've been working on. It was more, like, natural today."
"I was able to focus on just more basic stuff. That was nice because I didn't have thousands of things to improve in my head."
