Everything seems to be going well for Dominic Thiem in recent days as he's set to make an appearance at the 2023 Monte-Carlo Masters.
The Austrian had to deal with a lot of setbacks over the past two years. He is losing more than he's winning and his confidence also isn't at its peak. However, Thiem remains positive throughout his journey and recently he was rewarded at the 2023 Estoril Open.
For the first time this season, the 29-year-old won two consecutive matches to reach first ATP quarterfinals in over five months. After his good performances and a few withdrawals from the 2023 Monte-Carlo Masters, the 2020 US Open champion was awarded one of the wild cards.
Initially, Fabio Fognini and Jack Draper were two of the four wild card recipients, joining Stan Wawrinka and Valentin Vacherot. However, the Italian withdrew from the tournament and the young Brit was promoted to the main draw after a series of withdrawals from top players.
That freed up two wild cards and the tournament organizers had a chance to make two more players happy. One of those players is Lorenzo Sonego, who also didn't have sufficient ranking initially to qualify for the event and the other is Dominic Thiem.
The Austrian is currently ranked 111th in the world as he's still awaiting a big breakthrough after his injury. Now, he has a chance to do that with a good run in Estoril and subsequent participation at the 2023 Monte-Carlo Masters.
In the past, he played quarterfinals in Monte Carlo in 2018 but he's yet to compete at the event since 2019, this season marking his first appearance in four years.
