Djokovic Reveals Why His Documentary Keeps Getting Postponed

Novak Djokovic is not part of Netflix's Break Point because the Serbian is working on his own documentary, one that gets delayed all the time.

Sports documentaries are not a new thing, we have seen many over the years. It's become something that's more and more common as legendary athletes try to immortalize their stories in film on top of doing it in record books.

We've seen it in tennis and on the ATP Tour as well with Andy Murray and his documentary a few years ago. The Brit was actually quite annoyed with Break Point after seeing how much access they've been given compared to when he did his. His one was severely restricted as he couldn't show everything that he wanted.

Djokovic took matters into his own hands to produce his own documentary too and while it was scheduled to be out by now (late 2022 initially), it got postponed, a few times actually. He was asked about it at Wimbledon and he gave an update.

I was convinced that the documentary would be published [released – ed.] by the end of 2021 or in 2022. It keeps getting moved for a simple reason, though, as a lot is going on in my career, so we’re trying to come up with the best possible plan on how to present it.

Whether it’s a documentary film or a series, we also have to decide who will be our partner on the project as well. Now we’re adding some more material because of Paris (winning the French Open title).

Yes, having that iconic moment in there would certainly be something. That's the thing with documentaries, depending on what you want to show; it changes daily. Djokovic wants to show his career but his career is still going strong as he's breaking records in real-time. Like many, Djokovic would love to have it out as soon as possible but he doesn't know when that will happen.

I don’t have the exact date, I’m a bit anxious to see it too, I would love to have it as soon as possible. On the other hand, we want to do the best job possible. I’ve watched (Michael) Jordan’s ‘The Last Dance’, ten episodes with each episode lasting 50 minutes…

We’ve been shooting for years, there is a lot of material, so perhaps we can do something similar. When I have more precise information about the date of release, I will let you know.
