Novak Djokovic has now officially been confirmed for the Davis Cup Final Eight, even though it was expected for a very long time.
Djokovic promised Team Serbia coach Viktor Troicki that he would be available for this year's Davis Cup Final Eight as the country seeks to win another Davis Cup trophy.
It happened many years ago when Djokovic powered them past France on home soil, which remains one of the greatest memories Djokovic has in tennis.
He's always spoken with a lot of love about his country, and he loves playing for it. You can take the recent example of him opting to help his country in the qualifiers just a few days after winning the US Open.
Playing on short rest there was neither smart nor advisable, but he still opted to do it because they needed him. That's half of the story, really.
While the country has a pretty decent team without him, they still need him for some of the biggest results they hope to achieve. We know he's going to be in Malaga as the final nominations have been revealed.
Djokovic is front and center on the poster alongside Laslo Djere, Dusan Lajovic, Miomir Kecmanovic, and rising talent Hamad Medjedovic. The team is notably missing any doubles specialist, so we'll see what happens there, but the pickings were slim, to be fair to Troicki.
In any case, Djokovic will hope to help his country go as far as they can, and he'll need to do a lot. The event is played from November 21st till the 26th, so it's not long after the ATP Finals, where Djokovic will also play.
There will be plenty of tennis for the Serbian, who skipped all events since those Davis Cup qualifiers until now. He is set to return at the Paris Masters next week.
