Karolina Muchova Forced To Withdraw From Her Maiden WTA Finals

by Sebastian Dahlman

Karolina Muchova finally had a semi-healthy season, which was enough for her to secure a spot at the WTA Finals, but she won't play there because of an injury.

The opening line says it all because Karolina Muchova is truly one of the best players on the Tour when fully healthy. Her combination of skills is rather unique on Tour allowing her to play well on all surfaces. Her run at Roland Garros was almost impeccable but she couldn’t keep the level towards the end allowing Iga Swiatek to win the trophy.

She's also amazing on hard courts, which she demonstrated a few times, including this year in Cincinnati, where she made it to the final, losing to Coco Gauff. All of those efforts were enough for her to secure a spot at the WTA Finals.

It's a well-deserved one as she truly was one of the best players this year, especially since she still dealt with some minor injuries at times. It's been the story of her career and at this point, it seems like it's just something she'll have to manage throughout her career.

Unfortunately, an injury again will prevent her from playing at her first WTA Finals, which are coming up shortly. She announced it on social media, but unfortunately, the wrist injury was too much to overcome.

I am heartbroken to announce that I will miss my first WTA Finals in Cancun. Together with the team & doctors we tried everything till the last moments to resolve my wrist injury. Unfortunately, the time needed for the recovery is longer than we would've hoped for and therefore I had to make this unpleasant decision.

I greatly appreciate the support of all the fans. I will do my best to be back in 2024 and get another chance to be part of the WTA Finals.
