Djokovic Becomes Player With the Most Grand Slams Finals

Novak Djokovic has progressed to his 35th career Grand Slam final at Wimbledon, the most out of any other player in the Grand Slam era.

Djokovic continued his quest to retain the Wimbledon title with a straight-sets victory against Jannik Sinner in the semi-final. It will be the Serbian's third Grand Slam final of the season after he won the 2023 Australian Open and the Roland Garros.

In the process, Djokovic has made history and surpassed some of the greatest-ever players in the all-time Grand Slam finals list. Djokovic overtook Chris Evert (34 finals) to make the most-ever career finals out of any men's or women's players since the slam era started in 1968.

Before the 2023 season, Djokovic was already ahead of his former 'Big Three' competitor Roger Federer in terms of finals reached. Federer, who retired from professional tennis in 2022 at the Laver Cup, ended his career with 31 Grand Slam finals, winning 20.

Women's player Steffi Graf also reached 31 finals, while the likes of Martina Navratilova (32) and Serena Williams (33) were also on the all-time final makers list.

Djokovic's latest achievement comes amid a period of Gran Slam dominance from the 36-year-old. The Serbian player has won three of the last four major tournaments, and he is bidding for a fifth consecutive Wimbledon title at the 2023 edition as he prepares for his ninth career final at the All England Club.

In addition, the 36-year-old remains in contention for the coveted calendar Grand Slam, which involves winning all four majors across one season. However, only three players have achieved this feat in the Open Era, with Rod Laver being the only male player to win a calendar slam, which he did in 1969, while Margeret Court and Graf have won all four Grand Slams during one year.
