Casper Ruud admitted that his conflict with Holger Rune, which happened at the Roland Garros, is a thing of the past.
Scandinavian countries such as Norway and Denmark are not used to having the top tennis players on the ATP Tour, but that changed in 2022. In the past, Sweden used to represent the Scandinavian countries with the likes of Bjorn Borg and Mats Wilander.
Currently, there is one Norwegian and one Danish player ranked in the Top 10 of the ATP Rankings. Ruud and Rune, who also have similar names, showed their qualities throughout the season.
However, their relationship wasn't ideal at one point this year when they had quite a fiery argument at the Roland Garros, where they met. Ruud won that match 6-1, 4-6, 7-6, 6-3.
They have never met on a tennis court since then, which is why many fans await their meeting. That can happen at the 2022 ATP Finals, where Rune is the first alternate, while Ruud is one of the players competing.
However, ahead of the event, Ruud spoke about his rival from Scandinavia and hinted that he would like to improve his relationship with him in the future.
"We played four times already, so it's been quite a lot. And I've seen that he's improved every time we play, and it's become tougher and tougher for me to hold him back or hold him off."
"It's great to see that another Scandinavian is doing well and we had a little, what should we say, conflict there in Paris, in the French Open, but it's nothing to dwell on. It's great to see that he has improved his game and I know that he's been into posture and all this stuff behaving on court, so it's great to see that he's also improving every aspect of his game."
