Novak Djokovic is eyeing another Roland Garros final but losing in the semi-finals is something he's accustomed to as well.
Djokovic arrived in Paris with a clear goal of making his way to the final but not just the final, winning the trophy. There are multiple reasons for that but most of all it would break a record as he would become the first player ever on the ATP Tour to win 23 Grand Slam titles.
He joked before the event that he's not missing Rafael Nadal in the draw and also confirmed that he doesn't see himself as a favourite. He's only one match away from the final now, so he clearly is doing something good but there are some stats regarding Djokovic and the semi-finals in Paris that are certainly interesting.
The Serbian is the player with the most losses in the semi-finals of Roland Garros on the ATP Tour since the Open Era. He's lost 5 times in the semi-finals so far in his career and if he loses to Alcaraz it would be number six making his clay to this negative trend even stronger. His good friend Andy Murray is also on the list as the Brit lost four times in the semi-finals of the event.
It's a negative stat in nature but depending on how you view it, it could also be a positive. He's been very consistent at the event, making the semi-finals many times. You can't lose in the semi-finals if you don't make them. Djokovic made a lot of them and in the era of Rafael Nadal, he lost a lot of them.
The match against Alcaraz is a big one as the winner of that match will likely end up lifting the trophy on Sunday. The match could also determine which player ends up as world number one on the Monday after the Roland Garros final. More important it will give a chance to Djokovic to break another record after he already broke one this year at Roland Garros.
