Andrey Rublev vs Jannik Sinner: 2023 Vienna Open - Preview & Prediction

Andrey Rublev and Jannik Sinner will contest the 2023 Vienna Open semi-final on Saturday, and it promises to be a really good match.

Both Rublev and Sinner have played really great tennis lately with some deep runs. Rublev played in the Shanghai Masters final but lost to Hurkacz, while Sinner beat everybody in Beijing to win the China Open.

Even this week, we've seen some amazing performances from both players, even though some might argue that Rublev faced trickier opposition. In any case, it's a great matchup between two very aggressive players who rarely stray away from that type of tennis.

Head-to-head:

We've seen a couple of battles between them, and it's Sinner who came out on top generally. The score is 3-2 for him as he won the only match they played this year. We haven't seen any indoor matches from them so far, which makes this more interesting.

I generally think Sinner has the higher ceiling simply because some of the shots he hits are incredible. Rublev is pretty good, though, and has looked really sharp in the last few days. He can beat Sinner, but he'll need to outhit him the old-school style.

Prediction:

Sinner is far more streaky from the baseline as you never really know what might happen. On one hand, he might be amazing and crush you, but then completely lose his rhythm in the next set.

You just never know. Rublev is far more consistent with it, but he tends to get in his head quite often as well. One thing that makes me lean towards Sinner is his serving.

He's been serving really well recently, and it can be crucial. If he pairs up a good serving day with a consistent performance from the baseline, I think he'll win.

Prediction: Jannik Sinner to win in three sets.
