Carlos Alcaraz is a very dominant player, so much so that Toni Nadal finds his dominance very similar to that of Roger Federer in the past.
Roger Federer was one of the most dominant players on the ATP Tour and in tennis history at his peak. The Swiss player was pretty much unbeatable and if it weren't for the emergence of Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, he would have dominated the sport for 15 years.
Currently, Alcaraz is number one in the world and can remain so even if he loses to Novak Djokovic at Roland Garros. That match against the Serbian is a huge one. It will alter tennis history and directly impact the legacy of both Djokovic and Alcaraz. The youngster is favoured which speaks enough about the respect he has in the community but beating Djokovic won't come easy.
He's been very dominant so far including a trashing of Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarter-final and the dominance with which he plays is something that reminds Toni Nadal of Federer.
Dominant wins are nothing new for Alcaraz as he smashed Medvedev in Indian Wells at a time when the Russian was almost unbeatable. When it comes to Nadal, he sees Alcaraz keeping this up for a while, until a new force arises.
He is full of confidence and in excellent shape, physically and technically. He reminds me of the irruption and superiority that Federer showed since the end of 2003 and, above all, in 2004. So crushing was his invincibility that we had to wait for the arrival of a later generation for Roger to find himself in trouble. I sense that the same will happen, for a while, with Alcaraz.
We'll see if that dominance shows up against Djokovic and if it does, then it wil be clear. It's going to be the era of Alcaraz for a while.
