Carlos Alcaraz is intent on making tennis history and it's never been a secret either as he talked about him from the jump.
He's always maintained that his dreams were to win grand slams and become number one. Due to his talent and tremendous work ethic, Alcaraz was able to achieve both things on the same day when he won the US Open.
He lifted the trophy on Sunday and a few hours later the Spaniard emerged as number one on the ATP Tour. Naturally, he's not one to be satisfied with that as he hopes to keep pushing like the players he looked up to did.
A high-stakes match against Novak Djokovic at the 2023 Roland Garros could have interesting implications on tennis history as the Spaniard could book a second grand slam final if he wins, one where he would be the favourite.
Another thing would be a chance to deny Djokovic going for a historic 23rd which again impacts tennis history directly. The last time they played was last year in Madrid and everybody was anticipating their rematch.
Well, yeah, I would say since the draw came out, everyone was expecting that match, you know, the semifinal against Novak. Myself as well. I really want to play that match. Since last year I really wanted to play again against Novak. You know, we both are playing a great level, and as I said before, if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best. So I'm really looking for that match. I'm gonna enjoy it.
Whatever happens in that match will alter tennis history directly and for Alcaraz, the chance to do that is simply amazing. You can expect him to come up with a great level and a big smile on his face which will make it a great spectacle. Novak Djokovic lives for these matches as well, especially as he probably knows that the crowd will back Alcaraz.
Of course, for me, it's amazing to make history, you know, playing a semifinal with such a legend like Novak. So it's gonna be a great match for me. I would say the match we played last year doesn't affect t00 much to this one. You know, it was one year ago. I would say both learned a lot from that match, so its gonna be totally different, and let's see what happen on Friday.
