Coco Gauff is a Grand Slam doubles champion, but she won't win another major title in this discipline at the 2025 US Open.
Gauff is a two-time singles Grand Slam champion, having won the 2023 US Open and the 2025 French Open. She is also a doubles major winner, thanks to winning the 2024 Roland Garros with Katerina Siniakova.
The young American has never managed to win a mixed doubles Grand Slam title, but she also hasn't played a lot in the mixed doubles, despite being a former WTA World No. 1 player in doubles. Her best result in the mixed doubles is a semi-final appearance from the 2022 Wimbledon Championships.
At this year's US Open, the mixed doubles event will be played in a new format. It will be played during the qualifying week, with mostly singles players appearing in the draw. The likes of Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and Novak Djokovic are all set to compete.
Gauff would have been one of the favorites to win if she chose to compete, but her name doesn't appear on the entry list. She spoke about her decision not to play during the 2025 Cincinnati Open, explaining that she has plenty of sponsor events to deal with during the US Open.
"For me, it was just because I know the free week of the US Open is already packed for me, for sponsor things, and it was just like a whole other thing. And I’m very competitive; if I were to lose, I would not be happy. So, I didn’t want to waste mental energy on that."
"Then on top of the sponsor stuff, the pre-week, and then knowing that this finished on Monday and potentially having to play on Tuesday. Well, you would have to play on a Tuesday. So I just knew it wasn’t going to work out for me, scheduling-wise."

Coco Gauff says what she thinks about the new controversial US Open mixed doubles format

The new mixed doubles format at the US Open has raised some eyebrows, with mostly doubles specialists not happy about it. They feel like their discipline was taken away from them, since mostly singles players will play at the mixed doubles event in New York.
Gauff, who has enjoyed plenty of success in both singles and doubles, is not against this new format. She likes it, but she just couldn't commit to it in this first year.
"I think it’s cool, and I think it’s going to be an exciting two days, and not knocking it off for the future. It’s just that I plan my sponsor weeks literally like a year out, sometimes a year and a half out. And when this whole thing was coming up, I was already booked and busy."
