Alcaraz & Djokovic Set For Another Clash After Davis Cup Teams Announcement

by Sebastian Dahlman

After both Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz were nominated for their countries, we're now set to get another match between them, the first ever in the Davis Cup.

This is a pretty great rivalry, and it comes from the nature of both. It also comes from Alcaraz's acceptance of being Djokovic's number one nemesis right now, the player stopping him from further creating history on a tennis court.

The matches between them have been pretty spectacular so far. The first one came at the Madrid Open last year and saw Alcaraz rise above the Serbian to defeat him in a pretty close 3-setter. The second match came only this year, at Roland Garros, and it was a pretty great one for about two sets with the score being tied. Disaster struck in the 3rd set as Alcaraz started to cramp, and Djokovic cruised from there.

The best one yet came at Wimbledon recently, which saw Djokovic dominate early, but Alcaraz won in the end. It was a spectacular showing, and the match that sort of cemented the rivalry. We don't know when the next match is coming up, but we do know that we'll see one in September.

Both Djokovic and Alcaraz were nominated by the team captains of their countries for the Davis Cup. It means that if both are healthy and do participate, we'll see them battle it out sometime between September 12th and September 17th.

The match will be played in Valencia, and it should bring a lot of Spanish fans to the stands, which will make the atmosphere even greater. It's a pretty big match, one that could determine which countries move on to the knockout stage and expect both to be motivated.

They generally always are but if you add patriotism into the mix then you have the right ingredients for a supernova match. They might play earlier (Cincinnati Masters, US Open) but either way this one will be something special. The best of the Red Fury against the best among the Eagles.
