Nick Kyrgios has pulled out from yet another tournament, this time the sixth edition of the Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) scheduled to take place in mid-September.
The Australian star is the first player who has officially withdrawn from the UTS Tour's second event of 2023 in Frankfurt, Germany, and the tournament will announce his replacement in the coming days to complete the eight-man lineup.
Among the players who are invited to the event include the Russian duo of Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev, Christoper Eubanks, Benoit Paire, Gael Monfils, Diego Schwartzman, and Reilly Opelka. Matches will take place over the course of three days between September 15th - 17th, 2023.
Kyrgios has battled endless bouts of injuries this season and has not set a return date just yet, despite the UTS Tour holding hope he will play in the third leg of the tournament in Seoul during the close end of the regular tennis season in late November.
"Due to injury, Nick Kyrgios has withdrawn from UTS Frankfurt. Get well soon and see you at UTS Seoul. Replacement for Nick in Frankfurt to be announced very soon, stay tuned!"
The much-maligned Kyrgios has been at the center of heavy criticism and headlines away from the courts this season, with the general consensus among pundits and fans feeling he doesn't care about tennis, supporting these claims with Kyrgios' recent comments about not wanting to play up until 33 or on playing a very limited schedule even while fit.
Kyrgios, however, didn't hold back and ignited a war of words with former players such as Jimmy Arias and Tracy Austin, and has also attacked journalists on X for what he felt was biased criticism.
With his absence at the US Open now official, Kyrgios will not play any part in any of the four Grand Slams this season. That will see his ranking tank to a new low of outside the world's Top 400.
