The 2023 Lyon Open offers a great chance for players to prepare for the clay-court major and also earn some ATP ranking points and prize money.
Last year, the ATP 250 event in the French city saw a triumphant run from Cameron Norrie, who will want to defend his title also in 2023. The tournament, which is also called the Open Parc Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Lyon is held from May 21st to 27th and it's the last event before the Roland Garros.
Played at the Parc de la Tête d’Or- Vélodrome Georges Préveral, the Lyon Open is one of the five French tournaments and for the 2023 edition, it once again offers a great entry list with the likes of Tommy Paul, Pablo Carreno Busta, Francisco Cerundolo, Sebastian Baez, and Richard Gasquet all competing.
And what are they competing for? Their share of 562,815€ distributed in prize money as well as valuable ranking points. The champion of the tournament gets 85,605€ and as the tournament category hints, 250 points.
On the other hand, the beaten finalist will go home with 150 points and 49,940€ while the two unsuccessful semifinalists will be each rewarded with 90 points and 29,355€. Last year, Danish super-talent Holger Rune was one of the semifinalists, winning a match in which he was barely able to walk along the way.
The young Dane won't compete in 2023, but that will make the fight for the points and prize money even more interesting. For losing in the first round, players don't get any points, but they are rewarded with 6,035€.
However, already for a second-round appearance, athletes are guaranteed at least 20 ranking points and 9,880€, and quarterfinalists at the 2023 Lyon Open all get 45 points and 17,010€.
