The 2023 Cincinnati Masters, held from August 13th to 20th, is here, and so is the draw for the ATP 1000 tournament.
After the ATP Masters 1000 event held in Canada, players traditionally move to Cincinnati to complete the doubleheader. The tournament is also called the Western & Southern Open, and last year, it was sensationally won by Borna Coric.
And while the Croat managed to stun everybody in 2022, this year, the focus will once again shift to the big names. The top seed at the tournament is none other than Carlos Alcaraz, who will want to translate his form from the Canadian Open also to Cincinnati.
As with all the top-eight-seeded players, the Spaniard has a bye in the first round, and in the second round of the competition, he'll start against one of the qualifiers, or John Isner, who received a wild card for the tournament.
And even though the 20-year-old is one of the two biggest favourites at the tournament, all eyes will probably be on his main rival, Novak Djokovic. The Serb withdrew form the tournament in Toronto, and he will return to competitive action in Cincinnati.
Moreover, it won't be only singles for Djokovic, who signed up also for the doubles draw. But in the first round of the singles, the 23-time Grand Slam champion will play against the winner of the match between Tomas Martin Etcheverry or Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who has been in great form lately.
But it won't be only about these two. The fourth-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas will also want to prove his qualities, but the Greek is set to play probably the most-difficult second-round match possible. After a first-round bye, he'll meet either the 2023 Australian Open quarterfinalist Ben Shelton or the 2023 Wimbledon quarterfinalist Christopher Eubanks.
More playable draw awaits the sixth-seeded Holger Rune who will play against the winner of the match between Mackenzie McDonald and Yannick Hanfmann in the second round. The draw is packed with many great matches, and to see it fully, be sure to check it out below.
