Wimbledon Champion Vondrousova Becomes Czech Tennis Player Of The Year

Marketa Vondrousova has been named the Czech Tennis Player of the Year after a superb season, which included a maiden Grand Slam trophy at Wimbledon.

Vondrousova demonstrated tremendous tennis skills years ago when she reached the French Open final. She lost that one to Jelena Ostapenko, but it was only a matter of time before she got another chance.

She was simply that good. It took her a very long time, though, as it only happened several years after that achievement and not in the place where you'd expect. She's generally regarded as a pretty strong clay player with a very good hard-court level as well.

Even so, her maiden Grand Slam trophy came on grass. That was a major shock to her and everybody else because she's never been known as a good grass player.

She even admitted that she anticipated a first-round exit, but she made it to the final, besting an excellent grass player in Ons Jabeur.

The year, in general, was pretty good for Vondrousova, as she didn't just peak at Wimbledon. It was the only trophy she won, though, but that was enough for her country to recognize her officially recently.

The 24-year-old was named the Czech Player of the Year, which is much deserved, though the competition was fierce, with Karolina Muchova a good choice as well.

Now, it's about keeping that level up in 2024, as many will expect her to continue with her good play. She's in the top 10 and the best-ranked Czech player on both sides of the sport, so there is a lot of pressure on her shoulders.

She can handle that, as history taught us, but she'll also need to remain healthy in the coming years. That's the tricky part for Vondrousova, who dealt with many injuries in the past several years.
