Tennis player Emma Raducanu, who is ranked world no. 80, earned more in 2022 than world no. 1 player Iga Swiatek and it surprised a lot of people.
In 2022, the British player was the fourth highest-earning female athlete as she earned more than $18 million. On the other hand, the young Pole was one spot behind her, with $14.9 million, out of which almost $10 million came from prize money, that's around 14 times more than Raducanu's $700,000.
One of the primary factors for the difference in earnings from endorsements is Raducanu's marketability and the success she had in the 2021 US Open. Her victory in the US Open increased her visibility and credibility, making her more attractive to sponsors and leading to a number of endorsement deals.
These included collaborations with major brands such as Dior and Porsche, which likely contributed significantly to her earning more in 2022.
In contrast, Swiatek doesn't have a lot of significant endorsements, which may have limited her earning potential. The Pole focuses mostly on tennis and is the best in the world and she proved it's worth it in 2022.
