Elina Svitolina further explained her decision to leave daughter Skai behind in order to protect her from the hectic schedule on the WTA Tour.
There is no right way to go about parenting, as most parents try to do their best. When it comes to Svitolina, she opted for a bit of a different approach as she left her daughter back home while she and her husband compete at the Canadian Open.
We've seen players travel with their kids before, such as Victoria Azarenka, who has her son Leo with her all the time right now. Serena Williams also famously travelled with her daughter, but Svitolina has a different approach. She was asked about it in Montreal as she repeated some earlier thoughts on the topic.
Yeah, it's definitely not easy, and especially on the days like this where you have a lot of free time, you want to spend time with your family. I FaceTime with her quite a lot, and I try to spend time through the FaceTime mostly. It's not easy, I would say, this.
The decision to do so was a hard one both for her and Monfils but Svitolina admitted that it's not a thing that's set in stone. They might change their might when she gets a bit older but for now (9 months) it's a bit too soon.
We decided to do that. We'll see. Maybe later we're going to change our opinion, but right now she's still 9 months old, and the health is the priority for us, and we want to protect her as much as possible.
Both Svitolina and Monfils have looked pretty good on a tennis court right now playing some inspired tennis. How much their daughter has to do with it remains to be seen but life has been pretty good recently. That's for certain.
