WATCH: Simona Halep backed by Romanian home store in doping case battle

Romanian Simona Halep has been backed by a major retailer in her home country following her failed drug test earlier in the year.

Homeware outfit Dedeman - a major brand in Romania - has shown their support for the under fire former World No.1 by running a new advert featuring Halep with the tagline "Romanians with Romanians. For better or for worse."

In one of the stories of the year, Halep was suspended from all tennis activity in October following a positive test for Roxadustat whilst competing at the US Open.

The 31-year-old from Constanta, Romania, has since been backed by many across the tennis world, with some branding it an 'honest mistake' and coach Patrick Mouratoglou describing her as a 'model of integrity.'

Dedeman's support is a clear sign that many in her home country feel the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) ban is harsh and its thought that in 2023, Halep will be looking to fight the exclusion in order to return to the tennis tour.

This week, Halep took to Instagram to issue a positive message to her 1.7 million followers when she said: "Everywhere you go, take a smile with you."
