WATCH: Kenin Told To Tell Her Father To 'Calm Down' Due To Excessive Coaching In Miami

Sofia Kenin was told to calm her dad down during her first-round loss to Katie Volynets at the 2024 Miami Open.

The American is not having the type of year people assumed she would have after some solid showings in the Middle East. Before the season officially began, she was part of the World Tennis League in Abu Dhabi.

She played really well both in singles and doubles, going all the way with her team winning the trophy. She looked good, so fans got excited about her potential seats. It's not going that well in 2024, because she has only one win in nine matches played.

That's on pace for her worst season ever, which is far from the early expectations she set. She's had some poor seasons in recent years due to injuries, but now she seems to be healthy.

Things didn't go much better at the WTA 1000 event in Miami, as she lost to Katie Volynets. It was a decent effort from Kenin because she played to the best of her ability, but she still lost in three sets to her younger compatriot, who won 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

Not much went right for Kenin on that day because her tennis wasn't good enough, her mood didn't look too great, and the umpire told her to calm her father down because he kept talking too much during the match.

Alex Kenin is her coach and has been for much of her career. He's quite passionate about his daughter's career and likes to coach her during matches, and he was taking it a bit too far in this match.

Coaching has been allowed in tennis in recent years, but there is a way to do it. It should be discreet and periodic, so in this case, the umpire told Kenin to calm him down.

"Sofia, your father is talking a lot today. He needs to calm down a little bit."
