Venus Williams was playing really well at Wimbledon but a nasty fall completely derailed her match against Elina Svitolina.

Yes, it was a very good start from Venus Willams in that match but then she fell and the match never looked the same. Svitolina won it in the end and continued winning for a few more rounds. When it comes to Williams, she had a really colourful way of explaining what happened with the fall.

Now that things are settled and she's back to playing really solid tennis on the WTA Tour, the veteran looked back on it one more time at the 2023 Cincinnati Masters, admitting that it was very shocking to her. She was asked about it after her win over Kudermetova in Cincinnati and shared her thoughts on the very unfortunate fall.

Definitely, satisfaction from today is just all the work that goes into just being here at all. Just, falling at Wimbledon was really, really shocking for me. I couldn't believe that happened, especially after all my injuries these past years. I was, like, How did this happen?

That one was really tough for me. So I'm really happy to be here, actually. I did my best to be here as soon as possible in the best form possible I could here as soon as possible in the best form possible I could bring in that amount of time. So that makes it satisfying, like, to be able to get a win with, like, very little time to prepare.

The win over Kudermetova was a huge one for Williams. She's worked really hard for it and proved it against a very good, Top 20-ranked player. It happening in Cincinnati was only an added bonus because she always likes to come back to the event.

Just always happy to be back in Cincinnati. It's like my home away from home.
