Venus Williams had another horrific fall, as she slipped during her first-round match at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships.
The 43-year-old player hasn't competed a lot in recent months, but every time she did, she delivered a show. Even well into her 40s, Venus Williams keeps proving just how much she loves tennis.
Before coming to London for the 2023 Wimbledon Championships, the American player competed at the Libema Open in the Netherlands, where she lost in the first round to Celine Naef.
After that she moved to the United Kingdom, where she competed at the Birmingham Classic. At that WTA 250 event, she fell during her match against Camila GIorgi.
She then played another challenging match in Birmingham in which she battled an injury, and now she showed her mental and physical strength once again after a terrible fall at Wimbledon.
The American has been struggling with a right knee problem, and she entered the match with a bandaged knee. However, during the match of two wild cards, she likely worsened her condition even further after a terrible fall, after which she required a medical timeout.
Despite losing her initial one-break lead in the match against Elina Svitolina, the 43-year-old still fights, chasing her sixth Wimbledon trophy on the Centre Court, a place where she lifted five trophies in the past.
Ahead of the event, Williams said that if there was someone to play until 50, it would have been her, and she's proving once again why. If Williams manages to beat Svitolina, she will play against either the 28th-seeded Elise Mertens from Belgium or qualifier Viktoria Hruncakova from Slovakia.
That means her path to the latter stages is quite open, and the player with such experience will surely want to capitalize on that, even when fighting injuries and a slippery grass court.
