Teenage Prodigy Andreeva Fined For Throwing Her Racquet In Heartbreaking Wimbledon Loss

Teenage phenom Mirra Andreeva has been fined for throwing her racquet in the 4th-round loss to Madison Keys at Wimbledon.

Andreeva, who is the rising star on the WTA Tour, played some amazing tennis to advance to the second week in her first appearance at the event. The Russian joined a list of impressive players to do that but unfortunately, she couldn't extend that run to the quarter-final.

Running into an inspired Madison Keys proved too much to handle as the American came back from a set down to win the match. Andreeva had a point penalty in that match and when it was enforced it gave Keys a match point at 5-2 in the final set.

Andreeva threw her racquet earlier in the match which got her the first code violation and the second one came after she dropped her racquet again. This time around it looked like she dropped it to avoid hurting herself as she slipped, however, the umpire still enforced the rule.

The Russian didn't like that very much as she declined to shake hands with the umpire explaining in the post-match conference why she did that. She has now been officially fined for her actions (racquet throw). A total of $8,000 (£6,190) which she will barely feel considering the prize money she earned.

In her post-match press conference, Andreeva didn't dispute the first code violation as she admitted that she deserved it. She didn't like the second one and felt it was unfair. One or two doesn't really matter as even the one would have gotten her fined though the fine is bigger with the two.

Yes, the first warning I got, I think I deserved it. I threw the racquet, and it's a grass. After that I lost the set. I led in the score a lot. I was a bit frustrated. So that's why I threw the racquet. For sure here I cannot say anything, she was right to give me a warning. I didn't complain or talk to her about it, so... For me, here she made a right decision.
