Sloane Stephens is greatly inspired by what her compatriot Coco Gauff did at the US Open recently, though she did it herself.

Coco Gauff won her maiden Grand Slam trophy at the US Open recently, finally proving to everybody that she's far more than just hype. Sloane Stephens, of course, did the same thing back in 2017, and it was a maiden Grand Slam trophy for her as well.

She never won another one, even though she did play another final. Gauff obviously hopes to win a few more and likely will, but even this one has inspired many of her compatriots to keep pushing, including Stephens herself. She gave her thoughts on Gauff winning the US Open ahead of the San Diego Open, as reported by The Tennis Letter, where she'll play this week.

"Obviously, she's so young and so talented. I've known her since she was like six years old. We played at the same club and had the same coach. It's really nice to see her have some amazing results. I think everyone raises their level when they see someone doing well."

"The state of American tennis right now is incredible. Especially on the women's side, also on the men's side.. but on the women's side, it's very heavy. That only makes players want to improve and get better."

There is indeed a palpable rise in American tennis right now, with several young players emerging on both the ATP and WTA Tour. It bodes well for the future, and wins like the one of Gauff should give all of them confidence that they can do it too.

Even veterans like Stephens are not done yet and are pushing further, as the run of Madison Keys proved as well. It's just a very good time for US tennis right now, and Stephens loves to see it.
